Respite Care Plan
If you don’t ask, others might not offer to help.
There are many ways to access respite support. Respite care can be completed by volunteers or natural supports people such as family, neighbors or friends. Agencies, home providers and adult day programs are another option. Funding maybe limited or you may need to pay out of pocket. This is difficult for families especially when children are beyond the childcare rearing age. Medicaid also offers waiver programs. If you don’t think you’ll qualify for the program, please, please, please go to the source. Don’t take the advice of someone who may not know all the ways to access their program. Try. It doesn’t hurt to ask. If in hospice, Medicare will cover 5 days in an approved facility. The VA covers respite.
