Step 1: Discuss how words hurt.

  • Words can stir anger, create conflict, shatter dreams, crush spirits, distort truth, cast doubt, skepticism, and mistrust

Step 2: Discuss how words heal.

  • Words can also lift people up, turn away anger, spread cheer, bestow grace, and add comfort

Step 3: Rewrite your own narrative through positive statements

  • For validation, for confidence, be genuine, find purpose, set limitations

    • It’s okay to feel scared

    • I can do hard things

    • I’m caught in a web, I’ll push through

    • I will go on

    • I am good enough

    • I’m smart

    • Nothing is impossible

    • These little accomplishments are a big deal

    • I’m beautiful

    • Just take it one day at a time

    • Kindness is the heart of good

    • Soar on!

    • Hang in there

    • You’re stronger than you think

  • At times fewer words may be best

  • Limit the I’m not enough statements

  • I feel or I believe statements have power

  • Strive to understand different perspectives
